North East Ambition are helping businesses in the North East get involved with local primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, to get students the careers education that they need.

What is North East Ambition?

North East Ambition aims to, ‘support all North East schools and colleges to achieve the Good Career Guidance benchmarks by 2024’. These benchmarks include a stable careers programme, learning from career and labour market information, addressing the needs of each pupil, linking curriculum learning to careers, encounters with employers and employees, experiences of workplaces, encounters with further and higher education, and personal guidance.

North East Ambition hopes that by meeting all of these goals, they are not only creating clearer and more targeted career pathways for young people, but also building lasting relationships between education providers and businesses. These relationships will help businesses to be involved with the education of their future employees, and ensure that students are training in the skills that they will need to gain employment. 

Why should businesses get involved with North East Ambition?

By partnering with schools and colleges in the area, businesses can engage with the community that they are serving. Working with a business which cares about their local area, and the people that live there, makes a difference for your clients and customers. By working within your community, you can set your organisation apart from your competitors. 

However, working with schools and colleges is about more than appealing to your clients. Organisations which develop relationships with students through primary, secondary or college education are more likely to attract those students when they enter employment. By helping to educate, train and encourage young people, businesses can build relationships with the next generation of employees.

How can businesses get involved?

North East Ambition are currently working with over 200 Education institutions, and have a number of different ways that organisations can work with and inspire the next generation of employees and employers:

  • Enterprise Advisors
    Employers can join the Enterprise Advisor Network to volunteer their time and help students to understand the different ways that they can gain employment within your industry

  • Education Engagement Partners
    Help bridge the gap between education and the workplace by attending careers fairs and business breakfasts, and speak to students about the career opportunities that are available

  • Apprenticeships
    A qualification, from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 7 (Master’s degree) that lasts between a year and five years, and allow those who leave education to train on the job at your business.

  • T-Levels
    T-Levels are technical qualifications, where students attend training in person with employers alongside their regular classroom teaching. Employers can establish placements within their workplace for students to attend.

  • School Governors
    Employees and employers can become school governors, to help plan the direction of the school, oversee school spending and connect with headteachers and leadership teams.

  • Traineeships
    Traineeships are the bridge between education, and an apprenticeship or employment. They can be from 6 weeks to a year log, and are a high quality work placement with an employer.

  • Work Experience
    North East Ambition works with Employers to help develop and design a meaningful work experience programme, to give students a real experience of working for a business.

  • Curriculum-linked projects
    Employers or individuals work with local teachers to link their curriculum content with the workplace; help students to develop relevant skills and understand how their lesson relates to the world of work.
