Does your business have a bad weather plan?

As we inch closer to Christmas, the weather is becoming more and more unpredictable. For those commuting, the conditions pose a serious problem. Whether it's floods, high winds, snow or ice, on some days it may be difficult to just get out of your driveway.

On those days, it's imperative that your business has a bad weather plan in place. With a well prepared bad weather plan, your business can function as normal regardless of the conditions outside.

Primarily, you need to consider what services your business must always be able to provide. For most office based companies, each employee needs a way to contact other employeesa computer that can access the business' internal systems and a way for customers to contact them

All of these things can be done remotely, with the right software and preparation - allowing your employees to work from home when the weather prevents them getting to the office.

1. Everyone needs a computer they can take with them
Each employee needs to be able to access their documents, emails and any internal business processes when they work remotely. We make sure that every employee has a laptop, and encourage them to take it home with them during the winter months.

2. Customers still need to be able to get in touch
For customers to contact your employees by phone when they are working remotely, you need a system which supports Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VOIP technology.

This allows users to load up a virtual handset from a computer at home. They can then send and receive calls from customers right from their machine, just as if they were in the office.

3. Employees need access to any central systems
Your business' systems can be accessed by employees working remotely if they use a VPN. This is a Virtual Private Network, and is really easy to set up - you don't need any specialist equipment or advanced IT know-how.

A VPN means that employees aren't restricted to online applications when they are working from home. Anyone working remotely just needs an internet connection, and they can access all of the same systems and operations that they could sitting in the office.

4. Make sure that everything works!
Once all of these are in place, its important that employees try working from home before they absolutely need to. This way you can fix any problems before the bad weather hits, so your business doesn't take a hit too. Also, consider keeping these essentials in your car - just in case.

The Transcendit Way

Transcendit understand that when you choose to work with us, whether we're taking care of your IT, app or web development, you're trusting us with part of your business. So whether we're looking after your computers, phone systems or servers we always do things 'the Transcendit way'.

The whole of our team adhere to the same values, beliefs and policies - the principles that were written when Transcendit first formed in 2000. Whether you come to us for cloud services or recovery backup you can be confident that you'll always receive the same excellent service.

The Transcendit way outlines how we do business; following the same straightforward principles with every client and customer, regardless of how big or small they may be.

That means we get to know you and your business. We offer you a friendly, professional and efficient service, and we'll always be honest with you.
We understand that not everybody speaks fluent IT, so we try to explain things in a way that is simple and clear. We always spend as much time as is necessary explaining things to you.
If you need to talk to us about something, no matter how insignificant, we are only ever a phone call away – and we’re never too busy to make you a cup of tea and have a sit down with you in person.
We understand how frustrating it can be when things are late. When we schedule an appointment with you, we are there when you’re expecting us. If something prevents us from getting there, we always call you in advance to let you know.
Sometimes things can go wrong, but we never lie to you or try to cover something up. If things go askew we tell you what’s happened and how we plan to prevent it affecting your business.
We want you to continuously benefit from working with us. We regularly discuss your business and make suggestions for improving systems and processes wherever we can – but we never try to push you into a purchase.
When we quote a fixed price, that's always the amount we charge – you won’t find any nasty surprises on a bill from us. If you are paying by time and materials, we inform you if our approximations could change.
We understand the importance of privacy for your business and your customers. We respect the confidentiality of your data, and we will never pass on your information to third parties.
We appreciate it when you take the time to give us feedback. A system called CustomerSure records our client's responses, so you can trust that our reviews are from real people.
