If you're feeling the pinch, donating money to charity might not be at the top of your to-do list. But in just a few clicks, you can support a cause that you care about, without it costing you anything at all. Here are our favourite websites that help you do some good by doing almost nothing.
Easy Fundraising
If you're constantly shopping for the best offers online, this little site is going to make that deal even sweeter. Easy Fundraising is a massively comprehensive site, which helps you to earn money for charities online every time you shop. Just find the shop through Easy Fundraising's website or app, checkout, and you get a little back to donate to a cause. There are over 3000 sites listed, including all the major supermarkets, travel heavyweights and popular clothing stores, so you'll definitely find what you're looking for. You can donate to local organisations, and projects in your area too.
Miles and More
This site is perfect for world travellers. You earn miles whenever you get on a flight, a cruise or step into a rented car. You can then 'spend' these miles on one of the Miles and More partners, using your earned miles to make huge donations towards education, health and hygiene and nutrition in impoverished parts of the world. If you're really racking up the miles, you can even treat yourself to flights, shopping and gift cards.
Omaze
Omaze is an awesome site where you can donate as little as $10 to be in with the chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Instead of the more traditional bidding for these opportunities, where the person with the biggest wallet gets the prize, Omaze take a small donation from everyone and then picks the winner at random. Experiences on offer at the time of writing include meeting up with the creators of South Park, hanging out with the Game of Thrones cast, and being introduced to Bruce Springsteen. Meet up with a celebrity - it's for a good cause!
Free Rice
If you're a bit of a quiz nut, Free Rice is for you. Try your hand at culture, language, history, geography, languages and even SATs preparation quizzes. For every answer you get right, Free Rice donates ten grains of rice through the world hunger programme. Perfect for a quick recap of all the stuff you learned in school, and it isn't going to cost you a penny. Get smarter while donating to a worthy cause.
Ecosia
Ecosia is a nifty little search engine supported by Microsoft and Bing. For every search you do, Ecosia generates ad revenue. It spends all of this money supporting programs that are planting trees - and publishes its reports online, so you can see exactly how your clicks are contributing to a better environment. There's a mobile app if you're used to browsing from your smartphone, and an extension you can add to your browser so you automatically search with Ecosia every time. Even the Lorax isn't this good.
Charity Miles
Charity Miles is a great app that helps you to earn money for charity just by moving around. Perfect for walking, running and cycling alike; every time you start moving, the app tracks your location and you start earning miles. You can then spend these miles on a charity of your choice; at time of writing there are thirty charities to support. The app is user friendly, and works in the gym or out on the road. Available on Google Play and the App store.
