Transcendit are proud to sponsor Daft as a Brush’s Last Night of the Proms, which is returning with another incredible showcase of music and dance this October.
What is Daft as a Brush?
Daft as a Brush is a Newcastle charity, ‘specialising in transporting cancer patients to and from hospital for their Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment, free of charge.’ The charity is volunteer run, and a team of drivers and companions support cancer patients getting to, and from their hospital appointments. The charity helps 60,000 patients get to their appointments every year.
Transcendit, and Daft as a Brush
‘We’ve been working with Daft as a Brush since 2016,’ says Transcendit Director Adam Kuznesof. ‘They’re an incredible local charity doing invaluable work for cancer patients and their families. For many people, without Daft as a Brush they simply wouldn’t be able to get to their appointments, or would be going to hospital by themselves.’
During the time that Transcendit and Daft as a Brush have worked together, we have created a web-based system to help manage and organise the ambulances, volunteers and patients, as well as automating the planning process to coordinate each week’s journeys.
‘Daft as a Brush is more than just a transport service for cancer patients,’ adds Adam. Radiotherapy appointments and chemotherapy appointments can be frightening, they can be upsetting; they can be emotionally overwhelming for people. Daft as a Brush’s fleet of ambulances and volunteers gets people to their appointments, but they also help people to feel supported along the way. The friendly face of a volunteer can make a world of difference.’
Last Night of the Proms
As part of their fundraising efforts, Daft as a Brush run a number of special events, including concerts, parties and walks. Daft as a Brush’s Last Night of the Proms is one of their annual fundraising event that the charity runs in order to raise much needed money to keep their operations going. The event is an ‘evening of music, song, dance, soloists and much more…’ and is at O2 City Hall in Newcastle, on Saturday 21st October 2023, from 6pm until 10pm.
This year’s Last Night of the Proms features award-winning Bede Wind Orchestra and Choir, who are performing at the event for the eighth year in a row. Newcastle Dance School, who recently raised £1000 for Daft as a Brush through their INSPIRATION performances at Northern Stage, will also be performing at the event. Northern Sinfonia’s violinist Bradley Creswick will be in attendance, as will classical crossover Soprano Charlotte Porter. The evening will be hosted by Ray Spencer (MBE).
At time of writing, Daft as a Brush had met 82.11% of their annual fundraising target. Last Night of the Proms promises to be an excellent night out for people in Newcastle, as well as a great way to support this charity and meet their funding target for 2023.
‘This is our second year sponsoring Last Night of the Proms,’ says Adam. ‘We’re very proud to support Daft as a Brush, and this year’s event promises to be spectacular.’
