Getting worried about how to keep your children entertained in the summer holidays? You might want to check out some tech camps. These UK based virtual and residential camps are perfect for wannabee engineers, computer obsessed teens and kids who want to learn to code.
Tech Camp, Residential Camp
Tech Camp is the original residential camp in the UK for children ages 9 - 17, and offers week-long residential and nonresidential camps in July and August. Kids learn to code with real engineering projects, led by a professional engineer. This year, kids can take a week-long program in 3D Game Design, 3D Printing, Car Engineering, Computer Building, Drone Racing, Tech Creating or VR Design.
Tech Camp is completely catered, and all kids have their own individual room with en-suite bathroom. Parents get daily emailed updates, as well as photos of what their kids are up to. For those who can’t choose between two or more of their favourite subjects, Tech Camp also offers bridging weekends, where kids go on an off-campus trip. For children who can’t get enough tech in their life and want to learn more, Tech Camp is the perfect summer residential.
FunTech, Virtual and Residential Camps
FunTech offers virtual summer camps for children between the ages of 7 and 16, on a variety of subjects including Roblox, Minecraft, 3D Game Design, Python, Java, Unity and AI. The camps run from the beginning of July to the end of August, and are morning, afternoon or all day courses (the latter of which is recommended for older children, or children who can maintain focus for longer sessions). There are Beginner camps available for those who are new to the subject, or Advanced camps for those with a little more experience. Kids will learn how to code, program and write scripts for their favourite video games.
FunTech also runs residential camps for kids aged 8 - 16, on all the same subjects as their virtual events. They also have a Hackathon camp, where kids can learn about cyber security, ethical hacking, how to spot weaknesses and how to protect their data. Residential camps last a week and are held in Tonbridge, and childcare vouchers can be used to supplement the cost. FunTech’s residentials are completely catered, and children stay in either single or dorm rooms with communal bathroom and recreational spaces.
Code Kids, Virtual Classes
If your kids aren’t looking for a week-long course, but fancy taking a weekly class, Code Kids is a great option. Code Kids offer a number of classes all year round, including Python Coding, Minecraft Coding, Minecraft Modding with Blockbench, Beginner AI Coding, Roblox Coding or Intermediate AI Coding. All the software is provided free of charge, kids continue to have access to the software they used afterwards, and they’ll also get a copy of their project files and an online certificate of attendance.
Previously, Code Kids have offered virtual summer camps for kids, which are held on mornings, afternoons or evenings. There’s no word yet as to whether they’ll be running similar camps for 2025, but we expect that there might be an update in the coming weeks. You can also join their mailing list to receive updates.
