Scott Dewing

‘I really like computers,’ says Scott. ‘I work on a computer all day, and then I go home, and I head straight to my computer until I come back to work.’ 

Scott has worked at Transcendit since June 2014, and has just completed his apprenticeship. When asked how he got involved with Transcendit, Scott says, 'My mum had a lot to do with it. She knows a few people that work here, so when I was looking for work experience in IT she was able to put in a good word for me.'

'I worked here over the summer because I had nothing else to do - and my parents told me to. I loved it though. I enjoyed it way more than I was enjoying school.'

Scott went into sixth form, but he found that it wasn't for him, 'It was awful, I really didn't like the subjects. I took Electronics (which I was pretty terrible at), Biology, Chemistry and Physics - and IT, obviously. But I didn't find college interesting. My heart wasn't in it.'

'I started looking for jobs, apprenticeships - anything else basically. Eventually my mum got a phone call, asking if I wanted to do an apprenticeship at Transcendit. I wish I could have come straight here and skipped sixth form entirely - I already knew that I wanted to do IT.'

Scott says that apprenticeships weren't even mentioned at his school, 'They just expected you to go to uni. But with an apprenticeship you get your qualifications, you get experience in the workplace and you don't end up in a load of debt. The government should be pouring money into them, not cutting the funding.'

'It's pretty great working here, especially with the rest of the support team. You learn a lot really fast. I'm always trying to get better, so I regularly check the feedback on our website.'

'I want to know how high or low my customers rate the work I've done, and what they think of the service so I can keep improving. I really care about what I do.'
