Transcendit administrator Katherine Bell has informed us that her daughter, Caitlin Thompson, is currently on a fundraising drive for a ten day trip to Mexico with M10 Missions. Caitlin is heading to Mexico as a volunteer for the organisation, in order to help the community in Ensenada.
'I wanted to apply for this because I thought it would be a fantastic way to help other people that don’t have the same privileges that I do,' says Caitlin, on her fundraising page, 'and to help make their lives better in whatever way possible.'
The trip is from the 30th July to the 9th August, and Caitlin will be volunteering in orphanages, rehab centres and local churches. She will be running a number of workshops and sports days for the younger children in the community. The team of volunteers will also be building houses for impoverished families in the area.
M10 Missions is a Christian charity based in the North East, who provide training and voluntary experiences for 16-25 year olds. The programme is aimed at developing young adults' leadership skills, as well as providing much needed assistance to families in Mexico. You do not need to be Christian to get involved - the organisation welcomes young people from any religious or non-religious background.
If you'd like to get involved with one of their missions, you can express your interest in a M10 Missions Experience on their website. The deadline for attending this experience has now passed, but signing up will provide you with all the information about their organisation, and the kinds of work that they do in Mexico. You'll also be informed about their next round of applications. Although volunteers must fund their own trip, M10 Missions run monthly training sessions which, which include information about how to fund raise effectively.
'I am going to be organising some fundraising events between now and May to raise the total sum of £2000 needed to cover the cost of flights, materials, training and accommodation,' says Caitlin. Her initial target is £650, of which she has raised almost half at time of writing. Her next event is on the 24th of March, where she will be doing a sponsored walk along a section of Hadrian’s Wall.
Transcendit are proud to support Caitlin, and wish her every success for her fundraising, as well as her trip to Mexico. If you'd like to support Caitlin, please visit her GoFundMe page.
